Vehicle Description Vintage V8 drop-top fun has never been so affordable.
After all, with its bright appearance, sharp interior, upgraded 302ci motor, and overall rarity, you'd expect to pay a lot more for this 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente convertible.
You're instantly attracted to this convertible because it is everything you love about the 1960s.
The styling was about maximizing its presence on the streets, with the stacked headlights rising above the hood line.
It has a long profile accented by a full-length crease in the sheet metal.
The rear has a wide style with both the bumper and the taillight panel running the full width and aping around the side.
So it's a style that loves to own the road.
The turquoise color has that bright, nostalgic look, and the complete trim adds to the vintage style.
But while classic, it's also built to be a true driver that you won't be nervous about taking out on a whim.
After all, this is a true Comet Caliente, and there are cool hints that this one is a bit hotter than the rest.
You see it in details like the Ford GT wheels and the bright dual exhaust tips.
The white convertible top is a nice color against the turquoise exterior, and it powers down to reveal a deeper shade of turquoise.
So this has an attractive package with the roof up or down.
There are fresher investments here, including the upholstery and carpeting.
There's a handy tach added to the steering column, and the radio is now a retro-style AM/FM digital tuner that can also plug in your iPod.
So this one is ready for all-day cruising.
But even with the upgrades, this never loses its vintage atmosphere.
We especially love how you have the classic-style premium dash with plenty of wood-like trim that coordinates with the dual-spoke steering wheel.
Under the hood is a complete upgraded package that was done around 2018.
The 302 cubic-inch V8 was borrowed from a Lincoln.
It makes for a younger powerhouse still made to have a Mercury level of smoothness.
It also has a sporty style with Cobra-like ribbed valve covers that say Comet.
Plus, it's built with the right upgrades, like an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, a newer roller setup, and an aluminum radiator to help keep it all running cool.
Out on the road, features like the three-speed automatic transmission, front disc brakes, newer front-end components, and a Ford 9-inch rear with highway-friendly gearing keep this a nice cruiser.
We see far fewer classic Mercury cars out there.
While this was born in Detroit's heyday of building in big numbers, there were only about 6k Mercury Comet Caliente convertibles made in 1965.
So while you may want to replace the convertible top or other details you want to improve, there is a rarity and overall attraction to go with the value price.
So you know you don't want to miss this deal.
